At least 11 passengers were injured when 14 compartments of a superfast express train derailed in the eastern Indian state of Bihar Tuesday, a senior railway official said.
"The derailment took place at village Amba around 06:30 a.m. when the Rajdhani Express was on way to the northeastern state of Assam's capital Guwahait from the national capital. Some 14 people sustained injuries when the mishap happened at Amba halt between Kharik and Naugachia railway stations in Bihar," East Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Dilip Kumar.
The derailment happened after the train's driver made emergency braking after he heard the sound of an explosion on the tracks, he said, adding that a probe has been initiated into the incident.
Meanwhile, rail traffic was disrupted in the route for nearly four to five hours. "Several trains have been diverted due to the mishap," the official said.
