Rockets were fired at the military base operated by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in southern Afghanistan's restive city of Kandahar late on Saturday, officials said.

Afghan government officials, who insisted on anonymity, told Xinhua that five rockets fired inside and out of the compound and casualties have so far not been clear.

Satar, an Afghan staff working at the base who refused to give his full name, told Xinhua that one of the rockets hit the parking ground for helicopters inside the base, one at a shopping market inside the base and the remaining three outside the base in the farming land.

The ISAF could not be reached for comment at the moment.

Kandahar city, capital of the Taliban hotbed of Kandahar province, has been seeing increase of violence since earlier this year the ISAF announced that they would launch major offensive on the Taliban in the province as early as June.
