Two people were killed and more than 100 families have fled their homes following clashes between followers of two Moro rebel commanders in southern Philippines since Thursday, police and military officials said on Saturday.

Sporadic fighting were still going on in Kulambog village, Sultan sa Barongis town, in Maguindanao province until Friday between gunmen of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front's (MILF) 105th and 106th Base Commands, according to Senior Superintendent Alex Lineses, Maguindanao police chief.

Lineses said the fighting started at 04:00 p.m. local time when MILF troops under a certain Kagui Badi fought gunmen of the MILF's 106th Base Command under one commander Abdusalam Simpal.

The police official said Badi's followers encroached into the area occupied by Simpal's which led to the clashes.

Police said that six houses were also torched while two other persons were said to have also been wounded.

"It was a case of rido (family feud)," Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, spokesperson of the military's Eastern Mindanao Command, told Xinhua.

Government troops are now being sent to the area to provide security to the fleeing civilians, while Moro rebel officials as well as international monitors overseeing the conduct of peace talks between the Philippine government and the 11,000-strong Islamic rebel group are on the process of negotiating with the warring factions.
