Police officer killed in armed clash in Istanbul

A police officer was killed in an armed clash here on Thursday.

The armed clash erupted in a graveyard in northern district of Sariyer when a gunman opened fire on security forces, the semi- official Anatolia news agency reported.

Two police officers were injured in the clash. One of them, Turgay Yilmaz, lost his life. The second police officer, Mehmet Birlik, has been hospitalized, the report said.

The gunman, who was also injured in the clash, was arrested.

A full investigation into the incident is under way, according to the report.
