8 killed, over 70 injured in two road crashes in Bangladesh

Eight people were killed and over 70 others injured in two separate road accidents in Bangladesh on Tuesday, the private news agency UNB reported.

Five people were killed and 25 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Rajbari district, 118 km west of capital Dhaka early Tuesday morning.

Witnesses were quoted as saying a Dhaka bound bus collided with another bus from the opposite direction at about 2 am local time, leaving 5 people dead on the spot.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

In another accident in Bagerhat district, 316 km southeast of capital Dhaka, 3 people were killed and 50 injured as an overloaded bus crashed into a tree at about 10 am local time.

Witnesses said a Bagerhat bound bus hit a tree when its driver lost control over the steering, leaving 3 people dead on the spot.

The injured were rushed to various hospitals.

Among the injured, condition of 10 people was stated to be critical.
