At least 1 killed, 40 injured in clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan

At least one person were killed and 40 injured in a gunshooting during the clashes between the interim government supporters and backers of ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev on Friday in southern Kyrgyzstan, the country's Health Ministry said.

According to a spokesman for the ministry, one person died of a severe gunshot wound.

Kyrgyzstan's south is the power base for Bakiyev, who was ousted April 7 amid clashes in the capital between government forces and protesters that left at least 85 people dead.
