Witnessed said the protestors barged into the buildings at around noon and installed Bakirov in the governor's office.

Reports said another group of protestors seized the airport in Osh.

Also on Thursday, around 2,000 Bakiyev supporters surrounded the government headquarters in the southern region of Jalalabad, a city about 70 km from Osh.

Some 500 people entered the government buildings and kidnapped acting Gov. Bektur Asanov.

Witnesses said they saw Asanov being dragged away by unidentified men to an unknown location, but his press secretary later said Asanov had returned to his home in the nearby town of Suzak.

Jalalabad is the heart of Bakiyev's power base in the south.
