As many as 28 passengers traveling through a small village in the central India state of Madhya Pradesh were electrocuted Friday and an unknown number of people were injured when their bus came in contact with a live overhead wire, said police.
According to Mandla Collector K. K. Khare, the death toll is likely to go up.
Police said the incident took place near Surajpura village when the bus was heading from Doni village to Sukaria.
"The victims belonged to a marriage party. All of them were returning after the wedding ceremony when some object lying on the top of the bus touched the high tension power line," Khare said.
At the moment, the police is trying to ascertain the number of passengers on board the vehicle.
