Heavy rain lashed Sri Lanka Friday with the capital Colombo receiving 114.8 millimeters of rain during a period of three hours in the morning, weather officials said.
Police said most parts of the city had come under water with most roads clogged with slow traffic.
The Disaster Management Center said most low lying areas in the suburbs of Colombo were under water.
"We can expect more rain during this inter-monsoon period. Morning hours will see more rain," S. R. Jayasekera, the deputy director of Meteorology said.
Prasad Ariyawansa, deputy director of the Colombo National Hospital said the hospital building was struck by lightning early on Friday.
