Suspected extreme left-wing Naxalite rebels Thursday killed four people in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, a senior police official said Friday.
"We have found four bullet-ridden bodies at Jabalpur in the state's West Midnapore district. Naxalites are suspected to be behind the killings even as they have called for a 24-hour strike in the district to protest against the arrest of one of their woman activists," the police official said.
The encounter came just days after the Naxalite rebels triggered a powerful landmine blast which killed six paramilitary troops in the central state of Chhattisgarh last Saturday.
