A bomb blast at a busy market place in Pakistan's insurgency-hit Swat valley killed at least four people and injured six others Saturday morning, police sources said.

The explosion took place in a large market situated near Sohrab Khan Chawk in Mingora, the main city in Swat valley.

Police said the bomb was planted in a plaza. The blast was so powerful that several shops were destroyed.

Police and other law enforcement agencies put a security cordon around the blast site and the injured have been shifted to nearby Saidu Sharif Hospital, witnesses said.

Medical Superintendent at the District Headquarters Hospital, Dr. Lal Noor said that three injured persons are in critical condition.

According to the local TV footage, huge plumes of smoke are billowing from the blast site. Local people shut their shops as troops and police forces rushed to the blast site.

The blast happened shortly after the police arrested a would-be suicide bomber with explosive jacket stripped to his body in Green Chawk of Mingora. Police said one suicide bomber is still at large.

Green Chawk and Sohrab Khan Chawk are two busiest points in the city.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
