Meanwhile, the NATO-led forces in action against Taliban militants stormed a compound in Logar province 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul early on Sunday and killed a number of insurgents, a statement issued by the alliance said.

"An Afghan-international joint security force captured a Taliban sub-commander and killed several insurgents in Logar at a compound in the village of Nagar, in Pul-e- Alam district this morning," the alliance said in a statement.

However, the locals disputed the claim, saying three innocent civilians were killed in the midnight raid.

To protest the alleged killing of civilians, a mob of hundreds of locals staged a demonstration in Logar province, 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, attacked a NATO-led convoy Sunday morning and set fire on five oil tankers.

"The NATO-led troops late on Saturday night attacked a compound in Kolangar area near provincial capital Pul-e-Alam to detain suspected militants, but fire fight left three people dead," provincial government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, media reports say that the mob had burnt 16 oil tankers of the NATO-led forces.

On the other hand, NATO-led forces have utterly rejected the claim, insisting that all those killed and captured in the raid were insurgents.
