Pyongyang in festive mood for Kim Il Sung birthday celebration

Pyongyang has been immersed in a festival atmosphere to greet the 98th anniversary of the birthday of Kim Il Sung, founder of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The streets and restaurants of the city are decorated with national flags of the DPRK, red flags, green flags of the April Spring People's Art Festival, placards reading "Day of the Sun," "April 15," and other slogans. Kim Il Sung’s former home in Mangyongdae is swarmed with visitors.

The 12th Kimilsungia Festival and 2nd April Spring People's Art Festival are going on. A grand fireworks party was held at the bank of the Taedong River on Wednesday evening.

Kim Il Sung was born on April 15, 1912. The "Day of the Sun" was assigned to commemorate his birthday.
