Over 8,000 security men will be deployed to ensure security during the first Mekong River Summit in Thailand, Major General Dithaporn Sasasamit, the spokesman of Thailand's Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) disclosed Tuesday.

The Mekong River Summit will be hosted during April 2-6 in Thailand's central resort town of Cha Am and Hua Hin.

The security operation command, which will be officially operated from April 1, will be directed by Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, said Major General Dithaporn.

Security measures for the Summit will be operated under "the Hua Hin-Cha Am 531 Security Operation Strategy," the ISOC spokesman said.
