Japan has been helped in recent months by robust exports and by a more upbeat population. Data released Monday showed that retail sales increased at their fastest pace since 1997 in February. In one negative sign, however, separate data released Tuesday showed household spending declined by 0.5 percent in February.

The DPJ and Bank of Japan (BOJ) have put in place a series of stimulus measures to help along the economic recovery, and analysts say that the recent data on employment and retail spending demonstrate that the stimulus-led recovery is now heading toward being a full-fledged recovery.
