Indonesian envoy to ASEAN I Gede Ngurah Swajaya presented on Tuesday his Letter of Credentials to ASEAN chief at the ASEAN Secretariat, marking the full complement of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN.

Describing Ambassador Ngurah as a "familiar face in ASEAN circles", ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan said that with all the 10 Permanent Representatives officially in place, the work of the CPR as mandated by the ASEAN Charter would be further enhanced, a statement released by the ASEAN Secretariat said.

ASEAN Charter requires each ASEAN member state to appoint a Permanent Representatives to ASEAN with the rank of Ambassador based in Jakarta. Collectively, the PRs constitute the CPR, whose tasks include supporting the work of the ASEAN Community Councils, coordinating with ASEAN National Secretariats and other ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies.

The CPR also liaises with the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Ambassador Ngurah, who was previously the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Cambodia, also contributes regularly to local newspapers and is a lecturer at several universities in Indonesia.
