Afghan forces capture Taliban commander

Afghan security forces captured a local Taliban commander in southern Ghazni province, official said Sunday.

"The operation in Qarabagh district Saturday afternoon resulted in the capture of Mullah Nematullah," provincial police chief Khayalbaz Shirzoi told Xinhua.

He said that Mullah Nematullah was the commander of Taliban branch in Ghazni province and his arrest would enable government to consolidate its authority in the region.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and the NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
