Afghan and NATO-led troops killed seven Taliban militants during a joint operation in Deh Chopan district of southern Helmand province, a local official said Sunday. "Seven Taliban rebels including a local commander were killed in the cleanup operation in Deh Chopan on Saturday," the official who declined to be identified told Xinhua.

Meantime, Taliban purported spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi confirmed five militants and two civilians were killed in the clash.

He also claimed the militants killed over a dozen Afghan and foreign soldiers, which was dismissed by the official as groundless.
