An earthquake with a magnitude of 5. 2 jolted Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido late Saturday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency, which issued no tsunami warning.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 10:31 p.m. (1331 GMT) , was "very shallow" under the sea east of Hokkaido, said the agency.
