Gunmen kill 5 Pakistanis in S Afghanistan

Unknown armed men opened fire and killed five Pakistani nationals in Taliban birthplace Kandahar in south Afghanistan on Thursday, a local official said.

"The victims working for a road construction company in Panjwai district came under attack this morning when they were going from Kandahar to the construction site in Panjwai," Hajji Shah Baran the district chief of Panjwai told Xinhua.

He did not provide more details.

Meantime, a doctor in Kandahar city hospital Abdul Sattar in talks with Xinhua confirmed that the bodies of five Pakistanis and another who received injuries were taken to hospital this morning.

Officials have not pointed finger to any particular groups or individuals.

On Friday multiple attacks in central Kabul for which Taliban claimed responsibility claimed the lives of 17 people including nine Indian nationals.
