Strong earthquake hits Philippines

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred near northern Luzon, Philippines at 10: 54 a.m. Tuesday Hong Kong time (0254 GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 18.2 degrees north latitude and 122.7 degrees east longitude, about 220 kilometers east of Laoag, Philippines, it said.
