Kim Jong Il, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has inspected the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, the official news agency KCNA reported Saturday.

Kim inspected various production processes in the complex, learned about the technological upgrade and praised the workers for their efforts.

Kim stressed self-reliance, saying that entirely depending on locally available raw materials is the "philosophy governing the development of the economy in the DPRK."

He said the enterprises related to the complex have an important role to play in keeping the production going at a high rate, which is the most important task for the complex.
