Indonesia will maintain its nation' s pluralism as the country consists of many ethnics that live side by side, a high-ranking official said here on Friday.

The Chairman of Indonesian Upper House Taufik Kiemas told the Chairwoman of Thailand Senate Standing Committee Pikulkaew Krairiskh said that Indonesia has thousands of islands and hundreds of languages and ethnics.

"That's why we want to maintain the pluralism as best as we can. Our motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, meaning unity in diversity, cannot be questioned," said Taufik in a discussion with Krairiskh on the nation's daily life.

Indonesians, said Taufik, also have state ideology of Pancasila or Five Principle and Constitution 1945 as the basic law for all regulations.

Thai delegation visited Indonesia to boost bilateral ties as both countries have been good friends for along time.
