Ten people with alleged links to international terrorist networks were arrested recently under Malaysia's Internal Security Act (ISA), local media reported here on Wednesday.

The Star, a local daily, quoted Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein as making the remarks at Putrajaya, the administration center of the country's federal government, after the Malaysian Cabinet meeting.

Of the 10 arrested, nine were foreigners, said The Star.

Hishammudin said any terrorist linked with other terrorist groups internationally was a threat to Malaysia.

He stressed that regardless of the venue the people were planning to carry out terrorist acts, once they were on Malaysia's shore, they were under the country's jurisdiction.

The minister also said that the arrested foreigners had just arrived in Malaysia recently instead of having lived here for quite some time.

It was reported that the 10 arrested were also wanted suspects.

However, Hishammuddin refused to elaborate further, adding that the matter should be handled carefully with the cooperation of international agencies from all over the world.
