The Malaysian police have arrested another seven men over arson attempts on two churches and a school in Taiping of Perak State earlier this month.

This was the second arrest following the arrest of eight people last Tuesday.

Bernama, the country's national news agency, quoted Perak Chief Police Officer Zukkifli Abdullah, as saying on Friday that the seven men, aged between 17 and 29 years old, were held in four raids late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

The officer said the Malaysian police believed that their arrests could help resolve the arson attempts on two churches and a school on Jan. 10.

Several arson attacks were launched on churches in a few states in both East and Peninsular Malaysia earlier this month. Some churches also found their glasses broken by stones or walls splashed with paint.

Zulkifli said the police had obtained an order to remand the men for six days from Friday to facilitate the investigations of the incidents, adding that of the arrested, two held jobs, three were self-employed while two others were unemployed.

He also said that none of them had criminal records.
