Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Wednesday had a telephone conversation over bilateral issues, according to a statement of the Foreign Ministry.

Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) S.M. Krishna made the phone call to his Pakistani counterpart to convey good wishes to him for the New Year and Qureshi reciprocated similar sentiments, the statement said.

During the phone conversation, Qurenshi said that despite challenges the two countries confronted, Pakistan wants to have a cooperative relationship with India as both countries stand to gain from a sustained engagement.

Qureshi stressed usefulness of the Composite Dialogue in achieving incremental progress towards resolving bilateral issues.

He underlined that the government and the people of Pakistan are determined to eliminate this menace once and for all as Pakistan itself is the biggest victim of terrorism.

The foreign minister also updated his counterpart about the trial of Mumbai attack suspects in Pakistan, stressing that Pakistan is doing its best to bring the perpetrators of the attackto justice.

More than 170 people were killed and over 300 injured when a group of 10 gunmen attacked at least five locations in the Indian commercial capital in November 2008.

India put a pause on the "composite dialogue" with Pakistan after the attack and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that talks would not be resumed unless Pakistan takes action against the suspects.

The two foreign ministers agreed that the recent visit of Pakistan's National Assembly Speaker to India was a positive development. Qureshi suggested to revive the dormant India-Pakistan Parliamentary Forum as soon as possible.
