Security in Jammu, the winter capital of India-controlled Kashmir was beefed up Tuesday in view of Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony's visit to the region, police said.

Antony will be arriving to the region on a day-long visit to review the security situation particularly in the wake of reportedly increased infiltration attempts by militants on line-of-control (LoC) and the recent militant attack in Srinagar, the summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir.

Tight security arrangements have been made in and around the city as a precautionary measure.

"Adequate security arrangements have been made Monday evening ahead of defense minister's visit," said a police official.

Antony will be visiting the forward areas of Rajouri and Poonchsectors. Later on he will be attending the Unified Command meet at the residence of region's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The minister will be accompanied by India's Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, Defense Secretary Pradeep Kumar and various other officials.

A high alert along line-of-control (LoC) has been sounded in the region. Troops deployed on the LoC have also intensified round-the-clock patrolling.
