23 militants lay down arms in N. Afghanistan

A group of 23 armed anti-government militants laid down their arms and resumed their normal life in Baghlan province north of Afghanistan on Monday.

"Twenty three militants loyal to Taliban laid down their arms in Andarab district this afternoon," Mohammad Akbar Barikzai, governor of Baghlan province said.

Barikzai told Xinhua that with the surrender of these militants, the government control has been tightened in Andarab district and surrounding areas.

Taliban militants have so far made no comment.
