Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), called for building a powerful and prosperous nation by the country's own efforts with its own technology and resources, the official KCNA news agency said on Thursday.

He made the remarks when he visited the construction site of the No. 2 dam of the Ryesonggang Youth Hydropower Station in the North Hwanghae province, the KCNA said, without giving the date of the visit.

The DPRK has launched a campaign aimed at improving its people's standard of living in 2010 that marked the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim said, calling on all walks of life to "make a great dynamic advance."
