Afghanistan's security personnel have arrested a local Taliban commander in Paktika province east of Afghanistan, the National Security Directorate (NSD) said in a press release on Monday.

"Mohammad Ayub, who commanded a seven-member Taliban group, was arrested from Yahyakhil district. He has confessed to involvement in carrying out series of terrorist attacks," the intelligence service added in the press release.

However, it failed to disclose the exact date of the detaining of the suspect.

The Taliban has so far made no comment.
