Authorities in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province said Thursday that a military operation on Taliban has claimed the lives of seven civilians in the province.

"NATO-led troops carried out air strike outside Helmand's provincial capital Lashkargah on Wednesday, killing seven civilians and wounding two others," spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi told Xinhua.

The attack, he added, took place when some elders in Walizai village were discussing on the irrigation system in their area.

The spokesman said the provincial administration has sent a delegation to investigate and assist the victims' families.

This was the second case of alleged harming civilians by the NATO-led troops in Afghanistan over the past week.

In the previous case, according local media, 10 civilians were killed in the eastern Kunar province.

Hundreds of people came to street in the eastern Jalalabad city and the capital Kabul on Wednesday calling on government to halt harming civilians and to bring to justice those responsible for such incidents.
