Clash between suspected Taliban militants and Afghan-NATO forces in western Afghanistan's Herat province claimed lives of 11 insurgents Wednesday, an official said on Thursday.

"Militants laid ambush on the Afghan army, police and NATO-led forces when they were on patrol in Kishki Kohna district Wednesday and troops returned fire killing 11 rebels including their commander Mullah Abdul Baqi," Ghulam Farooq Rustahi, district chief of Kishki Kohna, told Xinhua.

Three other militants were detained by the joint forces, he added.

No civilian causalities were reported in the fire fight, Rustahi said. However he did not confirm if there was any causality on troops.

Taliban have so far made no comment.
