2 killed as blast hits Muharram procession in Pakistan's Karachi

At least two people were killed and several injured as a powerful bomb blast occurred in a main Muharram procession in connection with the Yaum-e-Ashur in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi on Monday, local TV channels reported.

It said the explosion took place near the city court on the MA Jinnah Road and some vehicles were damaged.

Reports said the blast occurred in the front part of the central mourning procession near Denso Hall at Jamia Cloth Market triggering stampede. The security forces are appealing to the people to stay calm.

The ambulances soon arrived on the blast site and the injured are being shifted to the nearby hospital. The emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the city.

The organizers stressed that they will complete the route the procession and will end it as per previously set scheduled.
