Two people were rescued from a fire at the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington on Monday evening.

The Fire Service was called to the high commission in Washington Ave in the suburb of Brooklyn at 5:16 p.m. local time to find it well-alight, the New Zealand Press Association reported.

Two people were assisted from the two-storey building by fire crews, central fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said.

The fire was extinguished a short time later.

Three people were taken to hospital for observation, Wanoa said.

He was unable to say if the blaze was suspicious.
