Seven fishermen from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), who were rescued by South Korean Coast Guard Monday afternoon will be repatriated at their request, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the Unification Ministry.

The ministry sent a message under the name of the head of the (South) Korean Red Cross to the DPRK side later Tuesday to notify it that the seven people would be send back on Wednesday through the joint security area of Panmunjom, and the DPRK side answered that related offices will be informed, said an official of the ministry.

The seven DPRK fishermen were spotted by the South Korean Coast Guard Monday afternoon after their boat drifted into South Korean territorial waters, 17 miles west of Deokjeok Island near Incheon, a sea port city west of Seoul, due to waves that were as high as three meters, according to MBC TV.

The coast guard towed the boat to Incheon Port.

During a questioning conducted by a joint probe team comprised of the military and the National Intelligence Service, all the seven people expressed their intent to return to the DPRK.
