4.6 magnitude earthquake hits New Zealand's South Island

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck New Zealand's Fiorland, in the lower South Island, on Wednesday, the GNS Science said.

The quake occurred at 11:50 a.m. New Zealand local time (22:50 GMT Tuesday) at a depth of 2 km, the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences reported.

The quake's epicenter was about 40 km northeast of Milford Sound.

There were no reports of any damage or injuries. GNS said.
