Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), called on factories and universities to further cooperate in a bid to push forward the modernization of industries, the official KCNA news agency reported Saturday.

Kim made such remarks when he visited the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory.

In order to turn the factory into a modern model foodstuff producer using state-of-the-art technology, universities and scientific research institutions should take ownership of the matter and help in a responsible way, said the top leader.

He also visited the Kim Il Sung University, which is named after his late father. Kim praised the university for training a large number of "revolutionary talented persons," the KCNA said.

The report didn't mention the date of the visits.
