Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday opened the national development planning conference that will last until Sunday, the Metro TV news reported.

In a speech aired live by the station, the president said the conference will focus on development planning for 2010-2014.

"So, when the plan is carried out, it will bring real results for the people and the nation," said Yudhoyono before central and local government officials and ministers.

The president said that local governments have the dominant power to determine the success of the nation.

"In the centralization era, the central government holds the power and contributes 60 percent to the national progress and the rest lies in the hand of local governments. Now, in the decentralization era, local governments have 60 percent to contribute," said the president.

Therefore, he said, synergy and coordination between central and local governments is very important.

"Coordination, consultation and synergy should be built effectively. Don't blame each other if we are encountered by problems. Find the best solution," said Yudhoyono.
