Afghan troops detain 5 insurgents including Taliban commander

Afghan troops arrested five Taliban fighters, including a local commander, during an operation against Taliban militants in Wardak province, 40 km west of the capital city Kabul, the Defense ministry said in a press release on Sunday.

"The operation occurred in Lora Shirkhil village of Syedabad district late Friday as a result Mullah Naqibullah along with four of his armed men were arrested," the press release added.

Machine guns and explosive devices were also seized from their possession, it further said.

Taliban outfit has not made comment.

Over a dozen Taliban militants and three Afghan soldiers, according to officials, have been killed since early weekend in eastern Afghanistan.
