"After intelligence indicated militant's activity, a joint operation was launched by Afghan and international troops in Sarobi district on Sunday morning as a result, six militants including a group commander were killed," Hamidullah Zuwak told Xinhua.

A number of arms and ammunition including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) two rocket propelled-grenades, few AK-47 rifles and communication equipment had been recovered on the ground, he said, adding that two more rebels were arrested by troops.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan, U.S. and NATO forces have yet to make comments.

In a separate incident, two militants were killed in Yaya Khil district in the same province as their explosive materials went off pre-maturely while planting on a road Saturday evening, according to Zuwak.
