Mongolian parliament approves new PM

The Mongolian parliament approved Sukhbaataryn Batbold, the current foreign minister, as the new Prime Minister on Thursday.

After the appointment, Batbold said he would make all efforts to perform his duties and manage government affairs well.

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party's (MPRP) Leading Council nominated Batbold as the new prime minister on Wednesday, the same day that the parliament accepted former Prime Minister Sanjaa Bayar's resignation.

Bayar tendered his resignation for health reasons in a letter sent to the country's legislature Monday afternoon. He has apologized for not being able to continue to perform his duties.

Batbold, who graduated from the School of International Relations, University of Moscow in 1986, has served as Minister for Trade and Industry of Mongolia. He became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade as of September 2008.
