Heavy gun battle between police forces and suspected suicide bombers erupted in Afghan capital Kabul early Wednesday morning, sources said.

Police forces found at least two suspected suicide bombers while searching a house in downtown Kabul city and the battle was still going on, said an official who declined to give his name.

Witnesses said the battle occurred around 5 a.m. local time (0030 GMT) when police vehicles carried heavy machine guns rushed to the site in Shar-e-Naw area of the city and one house got burnt, causing heavy smoke.

The street has been cordoned off and no official was available for giving details.
