An Australian and two Filipinos were arrested in a drug raid in a northern Philippine city neighboring the former U.S. navy base, police said Sunday.

Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Robert Paul Mason, an Australian citizen, in a "sex and drug den" in Olongapo city Saturday night. Two women and three underage girls were rescued.

Police also confiscated six pieces Demerol 100mg/2ml vials, several transparent plastic sachets containing shabu -- a popular chemical drug in the Philippines -- and a pocket digital weighing scale.

Police attributed the arrest to several months of intelligence operations and continuous surveillance.

Olangapo city is close to Subic Bay, serving as one of the largest U.S. navy bases overseas until 1992 when the Philippine Senate ruled the closure of this military facility.
