Philippine Army mobilizes troops, equipment for typhoon "Ramil"

The Philippine Army began mobilizing troops on Thursday in order to avoid losses and destructions that may be caused by typhoon "Ramil" (international code name: Lupit), which is expected to hit the Northern part of the country in the coming days.

Army chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit assessed troop readiness and equipage of the Philippine Army as he visited units in Northern Luzon, particularly the 1st Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG)and the 54th Engineering Brigade in Manaoag, Pangasinan on Thursday.

One company of the newly-activated Multi-Role Force Battalion also known as Army Contingent for Emergency (ACE), fresh from its disaster response training, was already dispatched to provide augmentation in Central and Northern Luzon, the military said.

The Multi-Role Force Battalion was activated recently to further enhance the Army's disaster response capability, not just in Metro Manila but in other parts of the country as well.
