Pakistan's security forces killed five militants and arrested 19 others in the continued search and clearance operations in northwest Pakistan's Swat and Malakand districts during the last 24 hours, the army said Thursday.

The army said in a daily update that the security forces killed five militants during the operations in Delai area of Swat.

Elsewhere in Swat, the security forces apprehended 14 militants in the search operations with another nine voluntarily surrendered themselves at Miandam, Barshaur and Tilligram, said the statement.

In the operations in Waziristan tribal agency, the militants fired eight rockets on security forces check post Zahidullah, injuring four soldiers, the army said.

Meanwhile, all the 11 militant attackers were killed and some suspects arrested on Thursday as groups of gunmen launched series of attacks on government and police buildings in Lahore, the capital of eastern Punjab province. At least 14 Pakistani security personnel were also killed in the shootout.

On relief activities, it said, 311,985 cash cards have been distributed amongst the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Malakand.

Nearly 2,000 militants have been killed since Pakistani security forces launched the military operation against Taliban militants late April after militants in early April entered the Buner district from the neighboring Swat district and refused to vacate the area despite their pledge to do so.
