15 militants killed in NW Pakistan

At least 15 militants were killed Monday in northwest Pakistan's Bajaur tribal agency as the troops entered the stronghold of the militants, local TV channel reported.

Pakistani security forces Monday morning launched ground operation against the militants in the tribal region as the jet fighters dropped bombs in various areas of the region, the private TV channel ARY News reported.

Moreover, police in a search operation arrested 85 persons including 22 militants in Charsadda, a nearby town of North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

Police captured 10 klashnikovs, 12 rifles, 15 pistols and more than 5,000 bullets from the arrested persons, local officials said.

Most of the arrested militants belong to Bajaur agency and Swat of NWFP.

The arrested men included 12 proclaimed offenders. More than 40people were arrested for providing financial assistance and shelter to the militants.

Pakistani security forces launched military operation against militants in Bajaur bordering Afghanistan in early September. Hundreds of militants have been killed during the operation.
