Death toll from typhoon "Parma" climbs to 299, 40 still missing

The death toll from typhoon "Pepeng" (international code name: "Parma") in the Philippine area of responsibility has increased to 299, with most victims from central and northern Luzon being killed due to landslides and floods.

In a mid-day news briefing, National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) chair and Defense Secretary Gilberto Tedoro Jr., said the fatalities increased due to landslides and flooding caused by onslaught of "Pepeng".

Teodoro also said 40 others remain missing while 75 were injured as of Saturday noon.

A total of 20,263 houses were damaged with 1,794 totally and 18,469 partially damaged, he added.
