Bilateral ties between Brunei and Germany are expected to be strengthened when a number of German students join the Brunei Darussalam University soon, a Brunei daily reported.

Brunei Times quoted German Ambassador to Brunei Thomas Bruns assaying that understanding and appreciation between the two nations would be promoted with the arriving of the students.

According to the daily, the student exchange program between Brunei and Germany was initiated in 2008 when a group of Bruneian students went to German universities to study.

Currently, there are about 80 German nationals living and working in Brunei.

Bruns said the diplomatic relations between both countries were established in 1984 and since then the relationship had always been excellent.

It was a good opportunity for the foreign students to learn the language and culture of the particular country via the student exchange program, added Bruns.
