A recent survey shows that most married working women here think company employers are supportive of them applying for maternity and childcare leave, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local TV broadcaster Channel News Asia, the survey by Singapore's NTUC Women's Development Secretariat showed that 83percent of the 230 women surveyed said they generally do not face any difficulties at work when applying for maternity or childcare leave with 95 percent of them saying their companies are supportive of such leave.

But 13 percent said they did face some difficulties. All women surveyed have children aged 12 and below.

Deputy Secretary General of NTUC, Halimah Yacob said local companies need to improve their employment practices and flexible work arrangements in order to get more women back to the workforce.
