Anti terror squad recruited to safeguard train passengers during Indonesia's Idul Fitri mass exodus

Indonesia's state-run train firm PT Kereta Api (PT KA) will be involved in police's anti terror squad of Special Detachment (Densus) 88 in safeguarding the trip of trains serving travelers during the massive exodus in Java, a senior PT KA official said on Tuesday.

"The personnel of Densus 88 will safeguard the trips of economy-and executive class trains,"Adji Julianto, the head of Surabaya train station was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.

He said that Densus 88 would deploy one personnel in each wagon of trains bound to Jakarta. The other trains with destinations other than Jakarta would be manned by regular police.

Previously the train form's senior official Judarso Widyono said that it has recruited more than 200,000 regular police to safeguard the train and the passengers during Idul Fitri this year.

Judarso that supervises PT KA's business in Surabaya region said that recruitment on police has been going on for years in safeguarding the passengers during the Idul Fitri travelers peak season.
